Caitlin's Introduction

Hi! I’m Caitlin Barnard and I’m an English Education Major at NDSU. I am the team lead for the PR team this year, and I’ve also fallen into the role of co-editor in chief along with Sara. We were mostly responsible for organization- keeping track of submissions and author information- as well as keeping the class on track and up to speed to make sure that we had a journal at the end of the semester. Regarding the PR team itself, I was mostly responsible for maintaining and updating the website and helping to organize/schedule tabling events. I also created Northern Eclecta specific merch that was used at tabling events and during the launch party. This is the third year I’ve been a part of Northern Eclecta’s staff.

I have enjoyed being a student in the Literary Publications course, and I’ve learned so much more about things I never thought I would when I first joined. The website and merch creation have become my own little niche in the course, and neither one of those things was something I had any experience in before starting at NE. My first year, in 2023, I took over the design of the website. The website was created in 2022,and the year I first took the Literary Publications course at NDSU, the website didn’t have much information on it. It was a functional website, but since then, a lot more information has been added to make the website more user friendly and informative.

I don’t know that I have a singular favorite myth, but I’ve always loved anything surrounding Greek Mythology as a whole, especially the stories about the Underworld. The story of Hades and Persephone has always been a personal favorite. I’ve also really loved learning about the river Styx- the boundary between the living and the dead- which was also the river Achilles was dipped in, and the water where gods and goddesses swear their oaths.

I hope you all enjoy our 19th edition Legends as much as we do!
