A Moment's Passage on Wonderstruck

My friends and I trudged through the snow and ice in the trails of Northern Minnesota in the dead of Winter, a time ripe with introspection. We came across a river, once flowing free with rushing water, now frozen in ice. Looking out across the river, in the clear patches, we could see waves of light shimmering beneath the ice. When we knelt, putting our ears to the ice, the silence of winter broke, and we could hear the frantic rush of water surging beneath us. The vitality of the water served us as a reminder that our lives do not simply freeze in the hardship of Winter but continue by finding a way to keep on surging beneath the surface.
